Nathan Sanders received the Oppenheimer Award nomination from New York Newsday for the "most impressive debut of a new American playwright" for the off-Broadway production of his first play, The Sugar Bean Sisters, at the WPA Theatre in New York City. Sanders'Êone-act play Sweet Jesus! was presented as a staged reading at the Marsh, a "breeding ground for new performance" in San Francisco. The world premiere was presented at Pegasus Theatre Company in Monte Rio, Calif., and the play was subsequently produced by Three Wise Monkeys and Thunderbird Theatre Co. and presented at the 6th Annual Bay One Acts Festival at the Eureka Theatre in San Francisco. In the summer of 2007,ÊSweet Jesus! was presented at the San Francisco Theatre Festival. The play isÊpublished in the Bay One Acts Festival Anthology Vol. 6.ÊA staged reading of Nathan's play Little By Little was presented in December 2004 at the Ivar Theatre in Hollywood. Tony Dow directed an all-star cast that included Meredith Eaton (TV's Boston Legal) and film legend Piper Laurie. Grove Theater Center in Burbank, Calif., presented a staged reading of the new draft of Little By Little in February 2008 with Meredith Eaton, Pauley Perrette and Marcia Wallace. Sanders' most recent play, Divine Fruit/Kundalini Rising, was presented at the New Works Festival at the Phoenix Theatre in Arizona in July 2010. An earlier reading was presented at the New Conservatory Theatre Center in San Francisco starring Karen Grassle (Little House on the Prairie) and Thea Gill (Queer as Folk). Upcoming film projects includeÊHeart in the Sand, an original screenplay with filmmaker Hamlet Sarkissian (Camera Obscura) and the motion-picture adaptation of Little By Little.ÊSanders studied playwriting with Howard Stein, associate supervisor of the Playwriting Program at the Yale School of Drama.
