Synopsis

Geezers introduces us to some beautiful and wonderful old people who are enjoying their golden years in a retirement home. Jack, a pathologically shy, 27-year-old man, begins a job there helping the seniors with their daily needs. But it's the "geezers" who wind up helping Jack with his needs. On his road to an epiphany, Jack learns from the old folks that he must break out of his comfort zone to achieve anything in life. Jack learns to crawl—then walk, then fly—with a wise group of mentors guiding him along. A funny, heartwarming drama about growth and wisdom, learning and loving, life and death.

We loved working on this show! It allowed students a chance to explore aging and all that goes along with it. The elderly characters had the opportunity to work on some of the physical aspects of acting. The younger characters who told the stories of the elderly characters had the opportunity to really work on difficult monologues. The show's humor allowed the more difficult topics to be discussed without weighing down the audience or the actors.

Hints, Tips, and Tricks

We spent two days with some elderly folks from the area. We observed their walking, sitting, talking and other physical traits all while enjoying their "stories" about themselves. It was a win-win!
